Signing in from Portland

I arrived in Portland not long ago; looks like rain already. I hear so much about the weather in the 'States being lovely, not in Portland evidently.

I'm meeting today with two executives from the company who is buying my researching skills. I spoke with Mr. Alpert earlier today and it seems I wont be allowed to use my laptop for the majority of the time here, something to do with the wireless broadband access interfering the testing area.

Regardless, I'll try to keep in contact as much as I can. In the meantime here are some of my photographs from Portland so far.

My time away, and what's coming next!

It has been a long time since I posted here for the first time. A lot, since then, has happened.

I paid a visit to America to talk to the people who would like to help me further my studies. I explained to them what I was hoping to achieve, and what I had so far. I spoke about the DHIM/MEMS project and they asked if they could see what I had done, in action. I was rather nervous, but I was also excited so I obliged. I returned with my equipment and I was taken to an area of the establishment where I had to be accompanied by a guard at all times. It felt strange, rather like a conspiracy movie! Feeling rather covert, I took some photographs. Unfortunately I didn't have to wrestle a guard to the ground for my phone to prevent him from stealing my "evidence"!

I was taken to an observation room, which had (rather peculiarly) a dining table in it. I was told I had to apply the DHIM/MEMS equipment to the dinner party which would happen and detect mood, feelings and thoughts.

Although I am not allowed to share the exact results, I can tell you that it was a great success and I have been offered to work in Portland (America) for 6-months to further my studies, which is great news. I will take my laptop and photograph and will report as much as I can from there.

More to come!

My first entry

I felt as though I should join the "blogging" community as I continue my research as a physics student, as I believe I am approaching something colossal.

For those of you who may be reading this and aren't aware, my name is Dirk Polder. I am a physicist from the Netherlands, and have followed in the footsteps of my father, and grandfather (Dirk Polder himself.)

I will post a little more about my research, my findings and my hopeful outcomes -- however I am in talks with some large organizations about taking my developments to the next level. As much as I would love to share my research, I am bind by my pining of funding for further development, and as such have signed an agreement of secrecy in relation to my research in order to protect it.

I can, however, tell you that in honor of my grandfather, and his researchers, I am researching a number of things in relation to the Casimir effect. Foremost of this is something my grandfather had researched, but had not published, simply called DHIM/MEMS (Direct Human Interface Model via Microelectromechanical Systems.)

Other areas of interest for my research are:

  • The application of MEMS
  • Pure mathematics
  • Low temperature physics
  • Magnetism
  • Thermodynamics of Superconductors
  • Human application of the Casimir effect

As mentioned, I will post more at a later date.
